Sanya
Sanya is the second largest city in Hainan province (Hainan being the biggest special economic zone in the country), and is in the middle of the south part of Hainan island. It's a transport and communication center, and one of the most important foreign trade ports in the extreme south of the golden coastline, which opens up to the outside world in the southeast of China. In addition, it is often considered China's "southern gate", and justifies its reputation as a vibrant subtropical oceanfront tourist city.
Sanya is a noted tourist resort with mountains, sea, river and city. The favorable climate is hot in summer but warm in the three other seasons so attracting large numbers of followers from both home and abroad every year. The whole of Sanya is related to the sea. Here you can enjoy a unique tropical oceanic landscape that is totally different from the other provinces of China. Sanya Bay, Yalong Bay and Dadonghai, all golden seaboards of Sanya, are some of the first choices for visitors to spend their holidays. Instead of a busy and exhausting journey, you can relax totally here by strolling along the beaches and breathing the fresh air. If you are an enthusiast of exciting water activities, Wuzhizhou Island is your place to challenge the mysterious and changing sea. Additionally more than 20 ethnic groups including Han, Li, Miao, Hui inhabit Sanya becoming a wonderful place to appreciate the various cultures of China.
Along with the developing economy of this region, Sanya has become much easier for visitors to reach where domestic and international flights can take you in the shortest time. A journey by train and ship will take you a little more time but give you more opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty around you.
Yalong Bay
Yalong Bay boasts unparalleled beauty. The 7.5-kilometer (4.7- mile) long, crescent-shaped bay with an area of 18.6 square kilometers (about 7.2 square miles) is one of the famous scenic spots in Hainan Province.
It possesses the five essential elements of a seaside tourist resort: sea, sand, sunshine, green plants and fresh air. The area has a tropical marine climate with an annual average temperature of 25°C (77°F). The lowest sea temperature of the region is 22°C (72°F) in winter - a great temperature for all kinds of water activities. Its 66 square kilometers (25 square miles) of sea can hold thousands of visitors swimming and playing in the water. The water here is crystal clear and sights 10 meters (33 feet) under water are clearly visible. In 1992, the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization once marked that this bay embraces the unique and unparalleled natural settings, sands, crystal sea water, endless seashore, unspoiled hills and pristine vegetation, making it a paradise for holiday travelers.
The unique state-level tourist resort is characterized by its tropical ambiance -- the resort holds seaside parks, deluxe villas, conference centers, top-end hotels, golf-courses and so on. In recent years, with the perfection of facilities, thousands of travelers are attracted by its unique charm to swarm to this ideal place for vacation. In the centre of Yalong Bay square stands a Totem Pole of 27 meters (about 88.6 feet), on which the God of Sun, and Gods of Wind, Rain, and Thunder as well as those legendary animals such as Dragon, Phoenix, Kylin and Fish are engraved.
In the north of Yalong Bay is the site of Butterfly Valley, which is classified into five halls that present the most precious species of butterflies in China and other countries as well.
End of the Earth and Corner of the Sea
Tianyahaijiao (End of the Earth and Corner of the Sea) is where people in ancient China exile their "criminals". As this is arguably the most visited attraction in Sanya, Hainan, expect hell lot of people. There are lots of kids here selling sea shells, which make good gifts for children and ladies. Again you can't take the corals onto the plane so don't buy them.
Tianya Haijiao, a romantic and beautiful scenic spot, lies to the west of Sanya City, Hainan Province. It receives many visitors from home and abroad every year since its open in 1988. It also attracts thousands of young lovers from every corner of the world to hold their wedding ceremonies here.
There are numerous rocks, with different size and shape, scatter along the silvery beach. Among them, these two, which are respectively engraved with Chinese characters "Tianya Haijiao" (end of the earth and corner of the sea) and "Nantian Yizhu"(the huge rock that emerges from the sea, making a "corner") are most famous.
According to legend, two lovers form two hostile clans once escape here. They swore that they would never separate no matter where they traveled and what happened. Constantly pursued by troops from both clans, they were forced to leap into the sea from this spot. People believe that this couple later changed to two huge rocks, which stand facing the sea. Moved by the loyal love between the two lovers, today, many couples come here to declare their love and promise that they would go to the "end of the earth" for one another.
Tianya Haijiao is a heaven for people who are head over heals in love, and also an ideal place for people who are deeply in love with the sea. You will definitely have fond memories after visiting this scenic spot.
Wuzhizhou Island
Wuzhizhou Island was known as Guqizhou Island in ancient times and the earliest records date from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), when a temple was built to commemorate the originator of Chinese characters, Cang Jie. Following the Qing Government's fall from power, the villagers rebuilt the temple to honor the Goddess Mazu, who bestowed good fortune on the local fishermen. From 1949 Wuzhizhou Island became an important strategic defense zone. However, from the 1990s, Wuzhizhou Island began to enjoy a completely new role as a romantic place for holiday and leisure.
Wuzhizhou Island is located in Haitang Bay on the south coast of Hainan Island, about 30 kilometers (18 miles) due west from the city of Sanya. Wuzhizhou Island is located in Haitang Bay. Yalong Bay, known as "The Best Bay in China" is the next bay to the south. It is 38 kilometers (24 miles) from Phoenix Airport, Sanya.
Wuzhizhou Island is in a tropical marine zone, the climate is temperate and pleasant all year round. Wuzhizhou Island is an ideal place for vacation, winter swimming as well as entertainment. There are over 2,700 plant varieties on Wuzhizhou Island, including the tall trees and dense bushes. The eastern and southern parts of Wuzhizhou Island are hilly and two high mountains connect to form a peak about 79.9 meters (262 feet) high. In the west and north, the terrain is level and soft white sand beach stretching. Protected coral reefs are rich in conches, sea urchins, sea cucumbers and various tropical fishes.
As well as Goddess Matsu Temple, there are many places of interest to visit including the Lover's Bridge, Sunrise Rock, and the Gold Turtle Stretching toward the Sea, The Sunrise Apart from these natural sites, swimming pools, bars, gymnasiums and other places of entertainment are available in the northwest part of Wuzhizhou Island.
Li and Miao Minority Village
Li and Miao Minority Village is located 28 km from Sanya, 40 minutes to get there. It is plant with Betel nut tree .so it also called Betel nut garden. Betel nut, also known as Binlang or Areca nut, is the seed of the Betel Palm The tall palm with shallow roots that looks similar to the coconut tree. It has a significant bearing to Li and Miao Minority people. They describe it as a beauty and slim girl. To chew betel nut fruits has become the habit of some natives as it can refresh their mind. Under these beautiful palm trees, you can not miss the handsome boy and charming girl who are ready for the Bamboo Dance. Here you will have a chance to see the real minority costume and entry their old style hamlets. The Hamlets are divided into different type according to the marriage status, for an unmarried young girl, there always will be one separated clay-made hamlet waiting for them. It is very interesting because the girls like those boys with good tree-climbing abilities.
For fun or for experience, you can try their traditional wedding ceremony at extra charge. They said the Li Minorities are more friendly and docile than Miao Minorities. Believe it or not, you will find out when you enter some part of this garden, Miao people are somewhat hidden from you, you will be told by the guide that once you meet Miao People, you have to shout “HoHa, Hoha,Hoha” at least three times, the more often, the better, or you will be "shot"(haha just a warning shot) by Miao. As a special treat, Miao people will present you with an amazing and incredible “Fire and Knife” performance.
It will take about 3 hours to tour through the whole garden. It is very much worth a visit once you are in Sanya.
Luhuitou Park
The love Hill in Sanya Luhuitou Park, opened in 1989, is located in the Luhuitou Peninsula in the southwest of Sanya and covers 82.88 hectare with five hills and the highest elevation reaching 181 meters. The hilltop park is noted for being an excellent place to have a look at sea-view and sunrise and Sunset or get a bird's-eye view on downtown Sanya.
There once lived a diligent and brave hunter in the Wuzhi Mountain area so the legend goes. This young man came across a charming deer one day while out hunting in the mountain. He chased the deer for about nine days and nights, traversing numerous hills and dales. Having reached the Luhuitou cliff edge, there was no way (where) for the deer to escape except into the churning sea below. Just as the hunter was about to shoot the deer with an arrow, it miraculously transformed into a beautiful and enchanting girl. Surprisingly, the deer was originally a fairy girl and was fond of the excellent character of the young man. She took a fancy to the seaside around Sanya and led the man here in the guise of a deer. They fell in love, got married and later settled in a village here. Hence the hill, the peninsula and the village are all named Luhuitou. Sanya City is also referred to as 'Deer City'.
The panoramic view of the vast sea, the rolling mountains and the view of Sanya city gained from the top of the hill is fantastic. Inside the Luhuitou Park, there are winding paths, Halley's Comet observation station built on the mountain, white wave-hearing pavilion, red Guanghai kiosk, the lover's island, and other scenic spots like the Monkey Mountain, Deer House, Hut of Li People, Turtle's Heaven and the Immortal Pond. What's more exciting is that you can taste the red coconut-the treasure of Hainan coconuts.
Nanshan Buddhism Cultural Tourism Zone
Sanya Nanshan Buddhism Cultural Tourism Zone is one of the largest cultural tourist attractions of its kind in China; it's located just 40 kilometres west of Sanya City along the Hainan West Expressway. Visitors also are attracted to the area because of the profound Buddhist influence on the surrounding culture. There are three separate parks within Nanshan: Buddhism Culture Park, Blessing and Longevity Park, and Hainan Custom Culture Park.
The Nanshan Buddhist Culture Park serving as a window on China's is rich in philosophy and profound meaning which often arouses in visitors a sense of enlightenment and morality. The main constructions in the park include the Nanshan Temple, Guanyin Cultural Garden, Tianzhu Saint Vestige, Scenic Garden for Buddhism, Shifangtalin, Guigen Garden, and Communication Center for Buddhist Culture, Dining and Shopping Street and so on.

The Hainan Custom Culture Park is filled with the characteristics of Hainan Province. It takes advantage of its picturesque location (by Nanshan Mountain) to showcase tropical scenery and the customs of Li and Miao ethnic minorities.
