Qingdao
Qingdao, an old port city situated on the Southern coast of Shandong, is a quaint and popular spot for travelers and sun seekers alike. At first sight the city seems almost a small town, a quick stroll around the railway area, close to the Old German Concession and the seafront, can be a deceptive image of the city proper, a deception that thankfully tends to stick with most of her visitors. With a total area of 10.645 square km and a total population of 6.95 million (2.27 million in the urban district).
The city is known as a summer resort with a rich historical background and natural beauty. The landscape of Qingdao is often described as the pearl on the crown of the Yellow Sea. Qingdao is one of China's five largest ports and the only port with an annual handling capacity of 100 million ton of coal, ore, petroleum, containers and bulk cargo.
There are many tourist attractions in Qingdao, including Mount Laoshan, bathing beaches and buildings with European and Japanese style. Many events, such as the Qingdao Foreign Economy and Trade Fair, the Qingdao International Beer Festival, the Love of Sea Festival, the Cherry-blossom Festival and Summer of Qingdao (Arts Festival) are held annually, entertaining thousands of domestic and overseas visitors.
Above all, Qingdao, a city full of hospitality as frank and hearty as the sea, welcomes friends from all over the world.
Laoshan Mountain
Laoshan Mountain is located on the shore of the Yellow sea. The highest peak of Laoshan Mountain is 1133 meters. Overlooking the sea, the mountain is characterized by the imposing canyon and undulating peaks and mystery mist.
Laoshan Mountain is said to be home of the "supernatural Spirits". It is the highest mountain along China's 18,000-kilometer-long coastline, as well as the only mountain whose peak is over 1000 meters along China coastline. In the old book "Qi Ji"(a record about China between BC 478- BC 221), there is a record of "Tai mountain is not higher than Laoshan Mountain along Yellow sea". The description is not for their real heights but focuses on their comparative grand impressions.. Over history many other famous scholars visited Laoshan Mountain and wrote lines about the mountain. Another nickname of Laoshan Mountain is his reputation of "the place of the second largest Quanzhen Group of Taoism" in history.
What’s more, the springs and water are also very notable in Laoshan Mountain. On a tip to the main peak, there is a spring named "Tianyi Spring". Other springs ,like "Shenshui Spring" of Taiqing Palace Tao Temple and "Shenshui Spring" of Shang Qing Palace Tao Temple. And Laoshan mineral water is a specialty of Laoshan Mountain. It is said that the mineral water can be used to cure diseases.
No1 Bathing Beach
Reputed to be the largest sandy beach in Asia, the No.1 Bathing Beach is situated on Huiquan Bay in Qingdao, Shandong Province. The beach stretches a length of 580 meters or so with width of about 40 meters. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides. In the area modern buildings and traditional villas are blended together to make a beautiful scene.
The beach was first built in 1901 by the Germans after they invaded Qingdao. It is the best of its kind in Qingdao. It is famous for its gentle slopes, thin sands, clear water, and calm waves. Because of the erosion and the accumulation by sea waves , rocks around the Bend have been eroded into thin grits continuously and the eroded grits are accumulated along the beach of the bend into a beach of full silver sands.
Surrounded on three sides by mountains, the beach is like the pearl of Huiquan Bay. The gentle slope and mild waves make the place a comfortable play area. Visitors can sunbathe here and swim near the coast, relaxing by playing volleyball or running on the sand and even dining on the beach. The region's comfortable weather makes it a good choice to avoid the summer heat. Even in winter this place is crowded with keen swimmers.
The bathing beach is divided into a swimming zone and non-swimming zone. July, August and September is the best time to visit. And the neighboring spots include Huiquan Square, the Naval Museum and Lu Xun Park..
